Principal Functions

The Associate Pastor for Students shall be a Christian and an active member of Bethany Baptist Church. The Associate Pastor for Students is a full time position and is responsible to the Senior Pastor for the development of a comprehensive program of education for students. He must consult with other staff members concerning activities, policies and procedures that relate to his area of responsibility.


  1. Serve as a member of the Church Leadership Team.
  2. Be committed to the purpose and objectives of the Church and participate in the mission statement of the Church.
  3. Coordinate and conduct a comprehensive education program for youth, Grades 6-12, to include Sunday School and weekday night(s).
  4. .Facilitate training for parents to be disciple-makers of their own teens.
  5. Mobilize and engage parents as partners with the church youth programs and outreach to teens
  6. Assist the pastoral staff in shepherding parents of teens
  7. Encourage youth to participate in the church ministry as a whole (e.g. worship, evangelism, small groups, etc.)
  8. Provide opportunities for youth to have exposure and experience in missions or ministry or both
  9. Organize, recruit, train, motivate, and oversee youth volunteer leaders through regular team meetings and specialized training.
  10. Build relationships with youth and their families
  11. Engage with youth outside of ministry settings (school, sports, etc.)
  12. Manage the Bethany Baptist Church Youth Facebook & Instagram pages and communicate with families who do not utilize social media
  13. Facilitate 5th grade bible study during Summer VBS; begin building relationships with upcoming youth
  14. Coordinate the Youth/Church calendar supporting church activities while minimizing schedule conflicts; plan calendar three months in advance to allow time for determination of related lessons, trips and expenses.
  15. Work with the Senior Pastor, staff and respective ministry teams to determine goals, organization, leadership, facilities and finances for the youth ministry.
  16. Submit an annual budget, considering periods requiring above normal expenses.
  17. Develop and supervise special projects e.g., retreats, camps and study seminars.
  18. Lead youth in the development of their personal relationships with Christ.
  19. Develop an effective visitation program to encourage youth’s acceptance of Christ.
  20. Encourage students to participate in all areas of Church life.
  21. Keep current regarding teaching methods and Church-sponsored seminars and conventions.
  22. Be available to assist with pastoral ministries, including hospital visits and assigned prospect visitations applicable to his area.
