The purpose of this role is to provide specific pastoral leadership, general ministry vision, and provide direction to all paid or volunteer ministry leaders within Kindergarten / 5th Grade. The Pastor of Children will be the responsible party to ensure that effective ministry is provided for people within our community and the specific areas outlined.

Duties and responsibilities

Ministry Culture

  • Support as needed in other ministry areas, We value the WE culture not the ME culture.

  • Provide growth opportunities for volunteers and parents.

  • Expected to provide Leadership / Vision for department Director and Coordinators

  • Solve problems as they occur.

  • Be willing to call, visit, or write letters of encouragement. Ministry Responsibility

  • Be involved and present in local elementary school environments including but not limited to FCA, ballgames, special events, chorus, awards nights, etc. This involvement could be through “your direct presence or assigning someone” to be a representative of CMC within the local campus.

  • You are responsible for actively recruiting / developing new leaders within K-5th grade, from New Members Process, Ministry Fair, Person to Person, Referrals etc.

  • Hero-Maker - You are expected to “equip” others to serve (lead kids, volunteers, parents)

  • Shepherd families and their children (Listen. Love. Lead)

  • Keep and maintain the responsibilities of an overseer as seen in (1 Timothy 3:1-7 CSB)

  • Verify / Audit that all “content” delivered to children K-5th aligns with mission, strategy and values of Chestnut Mountain Church.

  • Create fun and interactive teaching environments for small / large group learning experiences. (Sun, Wed, Special Events)

  • Responsible to provide vision and oversight of special events for children K-5th (VBS, Camp, Outreach and or Seasonal special event).

  • Lead yourself and others with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Be available as “on call” for weekend rotations (estimate 6 times per year)

  • Communicate with Directors, Coordinators, Volunteer leaders, Parents and Family members in a manner that reflects Jesus.

  • Support as needed for seasonal events / or services that fall outside of normal programming (Easter, Christmas Eve, Welcome Home etc.).

  • Create annual budgets for your assigned areas of ministry.

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Ability to Love to God and Love Other people.

  • Ability to serve families, with little or no recognition at times.

  • Ability to maintain unity (I’m the Problem or I’m the Solution) is the discussion expectation.

  • Time management skills.

  • A “calling” into ministry to work with Children (K – 5th)

  • Ability to multitask.

  • Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to work with little to no oversight.

  • Willingness to create and implement corrective action plans within ministry area as needed.

    Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous ministry leadership with 2+ years preferred.

  • Previous experience leading volunteers.

  • Previous experience providing direction for a large team of ministry leaders and volunteers.

  • Experience in coordinating and delegating ministry to other.

  • Experience in Missions (local / international)

    Working conditions

  • Office Hours (8:30am – 4:30pm) Mon – Thur.

  • Arrive to work on – time.

  • Occasional “remote” work may be available.

    Physical requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, employees must have the ability to work in extreme hot or cold conditions, use hands to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms; ascend stairs; balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk and hear. In addition, employees may occasionally lift to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
