Job Title: Senior Pastor

Position: Full-Time

 

Southisde Baptist Church is located in historic Greenville, Alabama about 45 miles south of Montgomery and a short drive from the Alabama Gulf Coast. SBC Greenville worships God in simultaneous traditional, contemporary, and children's worthip services on Sunday mornings. Over 350 members and guests attend worship services each week, not including those reached through online and radio broadcasts. To promote and nurture relationships with fellow believers and with Jesus Christ, we encourage participation in small group Bible studies through Sunday School on Sunday mornings and Impact Classes on Wednesday evenings. Southside is focused on the Great Commission, reaching the people in the community and extending His Gospel far and wide. SBC glorifies God in various community outreach initiatives. We aim to be a pillar of God's light in the community. Our mission is to REACH the lost, CONNECT the saved, and GROW the saints.

Senior Pastor Purpose:

The Senior Pastor will guide the life and direction of the church. He will be the primary preacher for Southside worship services. He will prepare for and conduct worship services, lead in the observance of the ordinances, and lead the church in proclaiming the gospel to the church and community. The Pastor will lead and support the deacons in the pastoral care of the church members. He will ensure that the church's systems, practices, and polocies effectively support its ministry activities. The Pastor will lead and grow staff members.

Reponsibilities and Duties:

  • Primary preacher for Southside Baptist Church worship services. Prepares and conducts worship services; leads in the observance of the ordinances; and leads the church in proclaiming the gospel to the church and community.
  • Strategic planning and staff coordination in the execution of the church's purpose. Defines strategic goals and vision as a key leader among staff and deacons and leads implementation of the plans.
  • Leads the pastoral staff in the design and implementation of all church ministries.
  • Collaborates with deacons in the reccomending and ordaining of future deacons.
  • Oversees the pastoral careneeds of the congregation and, as necessary, shares with other ordained ministries and lay leadership in hospital visitations and home visits.
  • Assures the completion of ministry goals and purposes through ministerial staff, administrators, committees, and volunteers.
  • Serves as the leader in seeking to win the unsaved and un-enlisted; lead the membership in soul-winning training.
  • Plans and promotes periods of evangelistic emphasis for the unsaved and renewal for believers.
  • Performs wedding ceremonies and conducts funeral services.
  • Acts as moderator for church business meetings, as required by the church constitution.
  • Supervises the adminstrative staff for the effective functioning of the church office.
  • Oversees the development of and adherence to church polocies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Focused on prayer and listening to the Holy Spirit.
  • Set as a guideline of personal behavior according to the standard on 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
  • Must align with and support the Baptist Faith and Message.
  • Must have a passion and love for the church and a desire to invest in the lives of its people to win them for Christ, grow them in Christ and provide opportunities for their ministry to others.
  • Must have a desire to teach people the word of God, how the Bible is relevent in their lives and in today's society, and how to apply the teachings of the Bible to their lives.
  • Must have at least a bachelor's degree from the accredited seminary or other institution.
  • Prefer at least ten years of pastoral experience.
  • Prefer at least three years of Senior Pastor experience.
  • Ability to lead, organize, delegate, and set and manage expectations.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Must maintain a high moral and ethical lifestyle.
  • Must maintain integrity beyond reproach.
