First Baptist Church of Murray, KY is seeking a Worship Pastor who meets pastoral biblical
qualifications (as outlined in 1 Tim. 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9; and 1 Pet. 5:1–5); adheres to the Baptist Faith
and Message 2000 in life, doctrine, and motivation; and relishes the opportunity to join an experienced
but relatively-new staff team excited about building upon a foundation of faithfulness in a new season.
Murray is the county-seat of Calloway County in western Kentucky, mere minutes from the Land
Between the Lakes National Recreation Area and within a few hours of Louisville, Nashville, Memphis,
and St. Louis. While the town and surrounding area provide limitless opportunities for recreation and
relaxation, Murray is also home to a comprehensive local hospital and vibrant regional university
(Murray State) that annually enrolls around 10,000 students from around the world. Placing a high
value on primary and secondary education, both Murray and Calloway County school systems
consistently rank among the best across the state. Murray offers residents and visitors unique and
abundant opportunities to experience a refreshing expression of small-town life—more cozy than
confined, more eclectic than uniform, and more lively than limited.
Founded in 1846 and situated a stone’s throw from an active downtown court square, First Baptist
Church is driven by deep dependence on the timeless truth of God’s Word, redemptive relationships,
deliberate discipleship, and meaningful multiplication in a ministry aligned with the vision to faithfully
represent God, in Christ, by the Spirit as we Love, Equip, Go, and Send. The church has historically
been composed of people from all generations, cultures, and capacities with the goal of worshipping,
growing, and multiplying together. The church’s average weekly attendance hovers around three
hundred, with total annual giving around $2M, including 20% allocated specifically to missions around
the world.
The ideal candidate for this position will inherit a multi-faceted worship team ready to follow his
pastoral leadership, with ample opportunity to recruit, develop and involve more that he will involve in
leading worship that reflects the church’s overall vision, mission, values, and strategy. He must
envision the possibility of diverse generations, cultures, experiences, and capacities joining together in
worship, as well as laboring faithfully to bring that vision to fruition. He should embrace moments to
mentor and develop others as overflow from an active pursuit of godliness and feel comfortable
helping others do the same. He should possess a broad range of musical skills and interests and enjoy
collaborating with the Senior Pastor and worship team to plan worship services, intentionally
connecting song and sermon to deliver a unified message. He will need a high-level of familiarity with
applicable AV technologies, as well as the communication skills necessary to help volunteers
understand and serve in this vital ministry that impacts Murray and beyond.
The Worship Pastor Search Team is eager to meet with qualified candidates who have the skills,
desires, and determination necessary to effectively lead this congregation to worship the Lord in Spirit
and truth. While a high-level of musical skill and organizational and/or vocational experience is
required, education beyond a Bachelor’s Degree (such as an M.Div. or equivalent) is preferred.
