Title: Children’s Ministry Director 

 

Type of Position: Full-Time

 

Supervisor: Senior Pastor 

 

SUMMARY:            The Children’s Ministry Director, as a member of the MRBC Ministry Staff, will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the spiritual needs of the children and their families. The Children’s Ministry Director will lead leaders and must be highly relational. He/She will need to have a strong team mentality leading staff and volunteer teams to provide spiritual development of both children and parents through regular, ongoing programming, and special services/events. He/She is expected to contribute to the team spirit of the staff through fellowship, dedication, cooperation, encouragement, and prayer support as he/she serves Christ at MRBC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ministry:

  • Cast vision and develop strategic plans consistently, and aligned, with MRBC.
  • Loves children and fosters their spiritual formation.
  • Implement and coordinate ministry plans in order to achieve short-range and long-range ministry objectives resulting in spiritual transformation.
  • Oversee all major elements within the Children’s, including Sunday Evening Programs, Wednesday, and other gatherings.
  • Recruit, equip, and oversee all levels of leadership within the Children’s Ministry including volunteers, parents, interns, and paid staff.
  • Develop a strategy that engages parents in the first steps of their ongoing responsibility of sharing the Gospel & discipling their child.  (Baby Dedication Celebrations and similar events will be the foundation of this process, as we provide such tools to equip parents as primary nurturers of their child’s faith [Deuteronomy 6] and encourage the faith community to play a supportive role in this endeavor [Ephesians 4])
  • Responsible for all teaching materials and curriculum to be used by the Children’s ministry.
  • Intentionally build relationships with children and their families.
  • Create and maintain safe and welcoming environments for all guests, children, and their families.
  • Align Children’s Ministry with the other ministries at MRBC. 
  • Effectively communicate with volunteers, parents, and our church via our website, social media, and print materials.
  • Build and manage the Children’s Ministry budgets in alignment with annual goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

GROWTH OF THE CHILDREN’S MINISTRY AT MRBC:



Reaching: 

 

  • The Director will create and utilize a follow-up system for absentees. (If someone misses 3 times, reach out with a card) etc. 
  • School interaction: Lunch with kids, School events, or ball games
  • Church-Wide Outreach Events:  Coordinate with all departments to assist. 
  • Quarterly Outreach events specifically for children’s dept. 
  • Schedule and lead all camps, conferences, and retreats for the spiritual development of the children. 



Teaching:

 

  • The Director will teach 3 out of 4 Sundays and attend Sunday morning service on the other.  
  • They will also teach at least 1 Wednesday or 1 Sunday Evening a month to allow for rotation of volunteers and interaction with parents/children in the other services. 



Caring:

 

  • Engage a minimum of one family a Month throughout the year via lunches, home visits, etc.  This will build relationships and foster a deeper level of trust with the parents and children. 



Developing:

 

  • Attend relevant conferences and seminars to keep up with best practices and programming. 
  • Continually evaluate trends in the Children's Ministry, implementing the best quality program for preschoolers.
  • Provide ongoing training for volunteers within the Children’s Ministry through monthly meetings.
